The first time I visited Tokyo, we were taken to this famous Buddhist Temple and shopping street in Asakusa, Tokyo.
This tourist attraction is so popular that it is included in the “what to see ” when visiting Tokyo.
The gate that greets everyone is the Kaminarimon or “Thunder-gate” - is the main entrance to the Sensoji Temple and Nakamise street, that is one lined up with small shops on both sides, as you walk down towards the temple from the Kaminarimon gate.
Tourists get the chance to buy little things, or taste some food stuff like rice crackers, Japanese sweets, and Japanese tea. There are also many souvenirs sold here. Of course, around the area, you can find Japanese restaurants that serve Tempura, Unagi, Tonkatsu, or even Yaki-niku. Just ask around, and you will find the food you want to savor.
It is a pleasant walk from the main gate down Nakamise street. The best time to go is during the weekdays – when it is less crowded. And if you want, you can try Japanese green tea flavored ice cream too.
It is quite a sight to visit, daytime or early evening…
I make it a point to bring my family and friends here when they visit Tokyo.
Have fun and hope you enjoy your visit to Asakusa’s Sensoji Temple.

We enjoyed Asakusa. The Temple, the pedestrian street with all the little shops where we sampled a lot of Japanese treats. It gave us an insight of local color. Kind shop owners, souvenir items, Sakura and of course the Sensoji Temple with people from all over to send off prayers to God.I highly recommend this place. A must, when in Tokyo.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your vacation here with us.
I’ve been checking your blog for a while now, seems like everyday I learn something new
