Cherry Clafoutis

This is not something Japanese… this is a French dessert.

But why am I writing about “klafootee”?

It is because my Japanese husband loves this French “custard/ pudding -like” dessert.

My husband Y, worked in a French restaurant during his younger days, although he could not learn how to make it , he really liked this French cherry dessert.

Many years ago, we had a chance to have it at one of our lunch dates.  And he told me how he loved the taste of this dessert.

Since then, we have been looking for the perfect Clafoutis in many cakes shops and dessert buffets.  But we never found it.

Though the internet was already around when we got married, there were only a few recipes and blogs…

Now, thanks to the recipes online, and bloggers… and the videos on You Tube,  I was able to make my first Clafoutis this morning.

Voila!!   Recipes, notes, about Clafoutis, even videos how to make it… ain’t life so great this age?

Here it is… not so perfect yet… but I will get there… My Y was so happy.

Take a look, it looks like a custard flan type of pudding with cherries.  Right?

It is so easy to make.  If you have cherries right now, why don’t you try it.

Here is the you tube video from Chef John…

There are also several links about Clafoutis if you want to read more:

Here is another version on You Tube ,I want to try this someday, the video is in Spanish, taken from Cocinaparalosamigos.

Good luck – and hope you like this French dessert so much loved by two of us in Japan.

I’m wondering if blueberries are a good substitute for cherries.

Yes, you can try blueberries, but Cherries are the best for this. I have not tried blueberries but one of the pages I checked had blueberries as a substitute. :)
