Japanese pop culture and saying the word “kawaii or cute” is present in almost anything that is or seems cute to many Japanese girls and women.
The first time I came to Japan, “kawaii” was one of the first words I remembered- because it was often said.
Everything we touched, wore, or saw, friends would say – “kawaii”.
A friend cuts her hair, and shows up, classmates would scream “kawaii”. One girl would show off her mobile phone straps with all those “characters” or stuff hanging – and of course- they would say… ”kawaii ” :D
One of the most “kawaii” cat that hit Japan is Hello Kitty.
She is a fictional cat designed by Yuko Shimizu for Sanrio. Kitty, a Japanese bobtail cat with that famous red bow, was introduced in Japan in 1975. After a year, she went to the USA, and many countries. I remember my first meeting with this cat was in the Sanrio shop in Greenhills, in the Philippines.
It has been years since I first saw Hello Kitty.

At the Sanrio shop in Shinjuku, Tokyo
It is amazing, she may be not as popular as before, but she still has her following in Japan… and is super popular in Taiwan and China.
Kitty is also now in a credit card…
This Kitty car photo was sent to me by a friend after I wrote about this famous car, ooops, I mean cat.

Thanks for this photo !
