Shut out from the World - Oct. 2009
With the new and ever up-grading gadgets of modern technology, the mobile phone, the portable music players- people are slowly “shutting” themselves from the world.
There are lots of advantages in having these gadgets IF properly used.
Communication has never been so easy.
However, look at the photo, this is a common sight – people “touching” their phones are all over – either sending texts, surfing the net, playing games or listening to music.
Worst of all, people text as they walk or go down the stairs, crossing the streets, and even riding their bicycles, or even driving.
I cannot understand, “what is all the rush?”
What is so important with texting, or the stuff they are doing with their phones - Why must they do these while walking, or driving? Can’ they sit down or pause even for that time they are sending text or whatever?
Nowadays, this is the worse combination - the mobile phones and the portable music players.
People are so busy with their phones, and at the same time – with music playing in their ears – that they do not know what is happening around them.

Can you count how many are shut out from the world?
Recently some incidents of theft, and “light” sexual pranks are increasing – with young girls as victims.
But come to think of it, these victims are actually “inviting these crime offenders” because they are “shut out”, and this really makes them the best targets.
Please be careful, know when and where to use your mobile phones…and music players.

Japan is a good country….A famous country in technology.
I was a bit shocked when I saw the picture you posted. You can’t do that in the Philippines because of thieves lurking around. Commuters normally use their gadgets with caution especially in crowded places. That is one of the differences between the Philippines and Japan. Sad.
