Sukiyaki ga daisuki

Sukiyaki ga daisuki” , translated in English - “I like Sukiyaki very much.”

Sukiyaki is a very popular Japanese traditional one pot dish, often cooked in an iron skillet.   “Yaki” as many of you know by now, means to grill.

The star and the most important ingredient in this dish, is the beef.  The “shimofuri beef”, or  “marbled beef with fat” ,  Japanese wagyu, or Japanese beef is the best.  It may be expensive but it is really worth the meal.  The quality and the way it is sliced is very important.  Sukiyaki’s beef is sliced very thinly.

It is usually served when the family celebrates a special occasion or when they get together.

It is usually served all year round, but more during the winter months.

Here is how we cook it at our home.

For a more authentic and expensive Sukiyaki meal… here is a photo I got in the internet from a Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu Specialty Restaurant.  Haven’t been there, but someday I hope to taste their Super Sukiyaki like in the photo. :D
